Principal's Message

Welcome families to the 2018-2019 School Year.  Here are a few notes about new procedures here at the Graniteville School:
1. Please be sure to sign and return the last page of our new Parent Handbook.
2. Please make sure that your child's emergency cards have current information.
3. Our new attendance policy for the Full Day State Pre-K class is:
Children should regularly attend the full school day for your Pre-K child to maintain their enrollment slot.  Once a child is out, late or leaves early for more than 5 days due to unexcused absences, the Principal will follow up with the family to discuss the absences.  Please keep in mind, id a child has been out for 20 or more school days, the child will lose his/her State Pre-K slot and another child's family will be offered the slot.  Please see the handbook for further explanations of excused absences and unexcused absences.
4. Remember: If you child will be absent, please call the school and let us know.
  • Please do not pass any buses while they are loading and unloading.
  • Please come into the building with your child to drop him/her off for school.
  • Enter the school from the fire station entrance.
  • Exit the school from the fire station side driveway.
  • Do not enter the parking lot closest to the building as this is faculty parking,UNLESS you have a handicapped plate! If you do have a handicapped plate, you may enter this section of the parking lot.

I look forward to an exciting year of sustaining a strong school and family partnership, while we foster a love of learning in your child as they become life long learners!

Thank you,
Maria Petronio-McAfee Edm. MA BS
Principal

Parent Pick-Ups and Drop Offs

  1. We are very cautious when releasing our students to parent/guardian/friend pick ups at the end of our school day.  Please be aware, that at any time, you may be asked to show a Driver's License if a staff member is not familiar with you, has not seen you before, or does not recognize you.  Please remind any new pick ups for your child, that the child will not be released to this person without proper identification!
  2. No Child will be released to an adult unless that adult's names is on the Emergency Card.
  3. Please remember to keep your Emergency Card up to date and accurate with the most current phone numbers and emergency contacts.
  4. In case you need to add or subtract a name from the Emergency Card, you must put this request in writing, prior to the pick up and send this request into school with your child.
  5. All parent drop offs/pick ups are in the front of the building at the red double doors in the Cafeteria.

As always, your child's safety is of utmost importance to us! Safety is our number 1 priority!

The students at the Graniteville School have been working on the creative curriculum unit titled Recycle and Reuse. We invited Max the Recycle Guy to visit our school and share some tips on recycling and how we can make our environment a better place to live.
